The RénoVert tax credit, an incentive for eco-friendly renovations

Established to encourage individuals to carry out eco-friendly residential renovations, the RénoVert program offers financial support of up to $10,000 to qualifying homeowners.

Initiated by the government of Quebec, the tax credit matches 20% of qualifying expenses in excess of $2,500. The renovation work must have been done by a qualified contractor under a contract entered into after March 17, 2016, and before January 1, 2019.

Thanks to the RénoVert tax credit, you can boost your home’s energy efficiency all while adding value to your home.

This refundable tax credit has been introduced to encourage individuals to invest in recognized eco-friendly home renovation work that has a positive environmental impact or improves their dwelling's energy efficiency. You can claim the credit if you have recognized eco-friendly home renovation work done to a dwelling you own or co-own, solely if it is your principal residence.

According to Revenu Québec, the following house types, whose construction has been completed by January 1st 2016, qualify:

• a detached house;
• a prefabricated or mobile home;
• an apartment in a building held in divided co-ownership (condominium);
• a dwelling in a residential duplex or triplex;
• a winterized cottage that you normally occupy.

To consult the complete list of recognized eco-friendly renovation work which qualify for the RénoVert credit, visit the Revenu Québec website.

In addition to taking advantage of a more economical option than the complete replacement of your windows, you can obtain a tax credit for the replacement of your energy-saving “Low-E Argon” thermal windows. The replacement of thermal windows, which qualifies for the program, is a service offered by Basco.

Included in the list of renovation work related to home insulation, the program also recognizes caulking and weatherstripping. Both of these services are offered by Basco.

Save energy and take advantage of a financial helping hand!
